Luka – The Tummy guide!

Ok, first post – Lets do this!

I was searching like crazy for an interesting subject to write about, when suddenly I saw this blog on WIRED that got my attention “App uses powerful AI to find perfect places for you to eat”.

Eat?

Food?

Definitely something worth talking about!

So, the blog talks about an app -introduced by 1,000 Plateaus company- called “Luka” that helps you find a restaurant near by with the food you love.

I know, Yelp and Siri already doing the same thing right?

What makes this app different is the way it works. You can ask Luka questions like “Is there a good steak place nearby?” or “Is there a cheap and good place to eat somewhere around?” Yelp or Siri  would probably give you a long list of suggestions, Luka on the other hand will give you one suggestion, and if that does’t sound good, easy, just ask for something else.

You can go crazy with the questions! For example, you can ask Luka “Where can I take my grandma for a dinner?” or “ Where can I get a burger at midnight?” or if they have vegetarian dishes, or what dishes are good. Saving you time and energy you will waste on reading the menu and the reading reviews yourself.

So I decided to download this app and give it a try and to see if it’s really do what it says and it did! It’s really impressive how natural the conversation with Luka feels like. Sure you’re talking to a machine, but actually Luka can analyse arrays of questions, phrased in so many ways.

This is a screenshot of the conversation I had with Luka:

Long story short, Luka is an app that uses an artificial intelligence to learn your preferences and scan the reviews to find the place you want. Unfortunately it’s only available in San Fransisco and the South Bay for now, but the company (1,000 Plateaus) plans to expand into other cities soon.

It would be pretty amazing to have this app available all over the world, so let’s pray that 1,000 Plateaus people will do their best to make that happen !
